HARROP

About Harrop

Harrop is an Australian‑owned engineering company based in Melbourne, with more than 55 years of experience designing and manufacturing precision performance parts. They’re known for high‑end components like superchargers, differentials, brakes and 4x4 traction products, supplying both OEMs and the aftermarket around the world.

For off‑roaders, their Harrop ELocker provides an electronically controlled locking differential that behaves like an open diff on road, then locks solid at the push of a button when extra traction is needed. Their fully sealed differential and transmission breather kit is designed to keep water, mud and dust out of critical driveline components, making it a popular upgrade for serious 4x4 touring and river crossings.

Harrop contribution

We’re about to send the old Cruiser into some pretty unforgiving terrain, and with a small 2H engine we need every other part of the driveline working hard for us. To give the rig the best chance in sand, mud and river crossings, we decided to add ELockers front and rear so we can crawl, climb and wade with much more peace of mind.

We’d already run Harrop gear on our Troopy and absolutely loved how confidence‑inspiring it was off‑road, so going back to them was an easy choice. Harrop came on board by donating 2 ELockers and a diff breather kit for the Cruiser, giving us a properly sorted traction setup and better protection against water ingress when the tracks get deep.

The experience with Harrop

We first reached out to Jake at Harrop and jumped on a call to walk him through the Freeroamchicks project and what we’re trying to do with this old LandCruiser. He really listened, asked the right questions and you could tell straight away that the story and the cause resonated with him.

From that moment, the whole Harrop crew has been nothing short of amazing, helpful, responsive and genuinely invested in making sure we’re safe and capable when we head off‑grid. Knowing that people who build serious performance and off‑road gear are personally looking out for our setup gives us a huge boost of confidence before we hit the tracks.

Harrop and the cause

At the heart of it, the team at Harrop are enthusiasts: they understand that the best adventures usually involve a bit of adrenaline, a few sketchy climbs and a whole lot of good company. Add a couple of dogs into the mix and you’ve got the kind of feel‑good story they were keen to stand behind.

They saw an opportunity to support a project that brings together travel, 4x4 adventure and animal welfare, and they jumped in to help us turn it into something bigger than just another build. By backing us with serious traction gear, they’re helping make sure our story stays rolling for us, for the dogs, and for everyone following along.
