Wolfe Creek Crater

Wolfe Creek Crater, an icon made famous by the backpacker murdering movie Wolf Creek … we had to check it out. So we took a 340km detour from our current camp site … is it on the way? No. Is it worth the nearly 6-hour drive to go see it this big hole in the ground? …

Years ago, Bec had been here with an certain image burned into her memory she wanted to share with Astrid. Dry barren lands surrounding the crater, hike to the top to reveal a lush green landscape within & get to walk along the rim as well as the inside. Except this time we have a drone.

Late afternoon and hours of corrugations later we arrived. Parked at the bottom, sent the drone up and went for a walk to the top.

Turns out it was nothing like Becs memory. I mean it was the same size and all but no contrast in vegetation. The recent rains meant everything had the same-coloured vegetation. There was not the contrast we were expecting. Not going to lie, we were almost disappointed. Wolfe Creek Crater is still a very cool experience.

With sunset approaching, we headed back to celebrate with Nacho’s and Margaritas … a perfect meal for our anniversary date!

The only thing left to do before leaving, get a photo in front of the sign … our style photo. Full Wolf Creek movie style.
